flashback friday: my old blog.

ran started his new job a couple days ago & he works until late which is fine for us... we are more of late night people anyhow, but i get so bored (more on all of this later). last night was no exception... there i was sitting in front of the computer going to any website i could think of. i had run out of options, but still had a couple hours until he got home & it popped into my head to see if my old blog was still up. i havent deleted it or closed my account, but i wasnt sure it after a certain amount of time with no activity they would automatically close it. well lucky me! its still there...

these are a couple of my favorite post that i read last night... so in love & such a nice weekend. it brought back so many memories of life in bellingham... working at treasury of memories, going to clayton beach, scrapbooking on a daily basis... how life has changed.

flashback friday: old school toys.

for some reason this past week an old toy commercial song popped into my head (boy do toy companies know how to market to kids) & i was singing it all the time which led to looking up the commercial on youtube...

do your remember those? i never had one, but i thought kid sister was pretty neat. so seeing that commercial promptly led to watching many others... glow worm, micro machines, gi joe, etc. then when i was wasting time looking around pinterest i saw this...

and had an "OMG i totally forgot about that" moment. i l.o.v.e.d this when i was little although mine never looked as good as the one the girl in the picture is making.

flashback friday: ran & fascho.

flashback friday: self-portraits.

i have been wanting to share it since then, but of course... i wanted to make it "blog worthy"... edit all the pictures & take out all the ones where i look bad & replace them with better photos, but then i realized that even though a good majority of these photos would normally never make it out of our private photo collection they are the photos i treasure the most. they are the snapshots of our everyday life... the small moments that mean the most when things get tough, the times we are having the most fun, when we are in the moment, not worried about what the picture will look like later. its okay if they are blurry, or i have a pimple, or my eyes are closed... because they mean so much more than that.

over the past ten plus years that ran & i have been together we have taken about a gazillion & three self portrait style pictures. we even turn people down when they ask if we want them to take a picture of us because then that picture wont match all of our other self portrait style photos.

for my birthday last year ran surprised me with a video he made on imovie using my favorite regina spektor song (a john lennon cover) & a small portion of our self portraits. it was the sweetest gift ever.

flashback friday: pup @ the beach.

the pups very favorite activity is going to the beach... she loves to play in the water, chase sticks, & lay on the warm sand. when we lived in bellingham we went to the water at least once a week & the pup loved every second of it. in syracuse the closest body of water was one of the most polluted lakes in america so i wasnt too sure about her swimming in it... the fish were so poisoned with mercury that fishing was not allowed.

yesterday we took her down to the beach for the first time since we got to california. she was so happy she didnt even know what to do with herself... she just kept prancing around in it & then running back to me & then prancing around in the water. such a happy pup!

flashback friday: middle school year books.

since packing to move involves touching everything you own we have been running across alot of funny stuff that we rarely look through like our yearbooks. we have gotten some really good laughs thumbing though the pages... funny candid photos, try-to-look-cool-&-that-you-just-dont-care-by-not-smiling photos, funny messages written from your friends "stay cool."

in 7th grade i lived in utah & went to milcreek jr. high... go mustangs! i lived close enough to the school that i walked there everyday with all my friends. according to a little book i filled out during this grade my favorite subject was orchestra, i had a bird & a dog, my favorite vacation memorie was flying in a plane by myself & when i grew up I wanted to be a nurse or a tacher. the picture below mine is of my very best friend from when i lived in utah.

in 8th grade i lived in washington & went to desert hills... go hawks! according to that same book i filled out during this grade my favorite subject was choir, a special achievement was that i got a b in math, i had a dog & a bird, & when i grew up i wanted to be a nurse.

flashback friday: st. patricks day.

so a day late, but none the less... here is this weeks installment of flashback friday.

flashback friday: camping.

this week we are going back to the summer of 1998 (i think). me & one of my best friends from high school, erin. we ended up sleeping in a cabin with about 10 other girls & a mouse... made for some interesting nights.

flashback friday: local shows.

 

for quite awhile during high school ran & i were really into going to local shows. our favorite was loudermilk... a group that had signed to dreamworks. ran was really into collecting any loudermilk parafernalia... news paper articles, cds, promo cds & posters, etc. we still have it all tucked into a box. in 2004 the group left dreamworks, changed their name to gosling, & switched up their music style. we loved still loved them. right before they switched everything they did one last local show as loudermilk in the parking lot of music machine. ran, david, bradely, & cody decided to make posters for the show just using some stuff laying around the garage...

flashback friday: the prom.

my friend, holly, at aqua elephant has a weekly feature that i am stealing... flashback friday. every friday she posts a "older" picture & tells the story about it. i think it is an awesome idea so i am starting here too. i hope you enjoy (i even made a little feature title picture thing).

so this week we are going back to spring 2000. i was at lampson staduim training at a soccer game (& by training i mean medical trainer). during a break i ran out to the parking lot to grab something from car & caught ran & some accomplices doing something to my car. they all scrambled, grabbing things, jumped in the back of a truck & drove off. when i came back out to my car after the game my whole car was covered in post-it notes. like the entire car... tires, bumbers, windows, the top... every inch had a post it note stuck to it. every post it had a little note written on it... "will you go to prom with me?" "please" "your pretty" "i love you" etc. i really wish i had pictures of it, but this was before digital cameras were a common household item (i do still have some of the post its). i dont remember how i replied, except that i said yes.

i was really excited for my dress. i loved the dress from anastasia & wanted one just like that, but in black. my stepdad's daughter made it for me... complete with sheer detachable train. i loved it!

we had started making our plans for the big night & we really wanted to eat at the olive garden, but that was before there was one in our town & the closest one was about an hour or so away. we decided it was still worth it. when our friends found out what we were doing, they decided to join. we ended up with a pretty big group & all had a blast together.
