collections: random vintage ads.

a few of the magazines i have in my collage box are some rolling stones from the 80's. hilarious. i can always count of them to supply with some good collaging material & after countless times of browsing them i have unknowingly started a little collection of vintage ads.

these are a few of my favorites...

i love the "haullywood" part. so funny.

the "messages" section in the back of the magazines almost always has at least one message asking someone to call home.

these all make me laugh... especially the the "fads" ad.

collections: fossils.

ran started collecting fossils about 8 years ago. why? "because you can have something thats 65 million years old." it is a little crazy to imagine how long some of these things have been around for... their like the original vintage. our collecting of them has slowed tremendously over the years, it is one our favorites.

collections: magnets.

the majority of our magnet collection are souveniers from places we visit. places, where maybe we weren't really interested in a big purchase souvenier, but we still wanted a reminder. i love having the little memories that they conjure up pop into my head through out the day as i pass them... when i took my parents to nyc for their first time: my mom was amazed at the number of cars. summer concerts at bethel woods: bob dylan, carlos santana, willie nelson, & john mellencamp. the andy warhol museum in pittsburgh. driving across the country with my brother. going to the san diego zoo on our honeymoon...

collections: vintage sewing spools.

welcome to the first installment of collections, a new blog feature for the coming year. every couple of weeks or so i will be sharing some of the things i have collections of. i always think they make for interesting photos & its just fun to share. 

i have been collecting vintage spools of thread for the last couple years. some of them my mama sent me & some i found during various thrifting & antiqueing adventures. the labels are my favorite part... some on paper, some printed directly on the wood, different fonts, & colors. i store about half of them in a vintage mason jar on my sewing counter ( i took over the bar in my kitchen) & the other half are stored away.
